Consumer Reports names best used cars for every budget

Bend Weekly News for Bend Oregon

I don't always agree with Consumer Reports because I really don't see an easy comparison between say at 2003 Chevy Cavalier with remaining factory warranty and a 1997 Toyota Tercel with no warranty at the same price. Even the comparison between any 2003 car and a 1997 car is really out there to me.

Using their 2006 Annual Car Reliability Survey is in my opinion not the best source for actual reliability statistics.

The fact is car reliability has improved over the past several years at a remarkable rate. When buying a used vehicle my advice would be to always buy the newest car with the lowest mileage for the money. Even Honda's and Toyota's need more maintenace above 100,000kms then most cars below 100,000kms and even minor repairs can cost a considerable amount more.
